The unique mechanical, electrical, optical, magnetic and chemical characteristics of advanced nanomaterials make them ideal for the design of next generation defense and security systems. In this paper, the author discusses new uses of advanced nanomaterials in protective structures, light weight armor, sensing and threat detection, terahertz imaging, energy storage, electronics, communications and surveillance. It also reflects the convergence of nanotechnology with Internet of Things platforms, artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems and digital twins to enable intelligent and connected defense solutions. Research on technologies of military application, nanoscale materials, technologies for security practice, and related digital technologies is synthesized using a qualitative literature-based methodology. Multifunctional nanocomposites, nanosensors, nanocoatings, and nanostructured electronic materials are the areas of technological development that are identified by the analysis. Meanwhile, several issues concerning scalability, manufacturing cost, reliability, cybersecurity, environmental safety, dual use and strategic governance are still of great concern. The work emphasizes the need for interdisciplinary studies and responsible technology development to meet the challenge of laboratory advances to reliable operational capabilities. Future opportunities are multifunctional materials, intelligent nanosensor networks, intelligent threat detection using AI, secure cyber-physical integration, and digital-twin based defense infrastructure.
